LED grow lights, made by Akar
Indoors there is no sun, so light is the farm’s most important input. Akar makes its own.
Why LEDs
LEDs give off far less heat per unit of light than older lamps, so they can sit close to the leaves on every layer of a stacked rack. They also let growers pick the spectrum. The pink-purple glow in many Akar photos comes from red and blue diodes, the wavelengths chlorophyll absorbs most strongly. White LEDs give a fuller spectrum and make the crop easier for people to inspect.
Two quantities matter most: intensity (how many photons reach the leaf) and photoperiod (how many hours the lights stay on). Together they set the daily light integral, which decides how fast leafy greens grow.
