Reading the numbers
Akar has published 85% (akar.farm 2023, akar.cloud 2024, MIT Solve 2023). In 2024 it also cited "up to 90% less water and 50% higher yields" compared with traditional methods (Yunus&Youth). These are company-reported figures and depend on the crop and the comparison baseline.
Indoor farms do use electricity for lighting and climate control. Akar's answer is efficient LEDs, controlled rooms and research into off-grid operation.
