Toward off-grid farming
“We are still in research how to bring our unit off-grid: easier to farm energy and be independent… anywhere and anytime.” Akar, 2023.
The research thread
In 2023 Akar described off-grid operation as an open research goal. A unit that needs no mains power could farm in remote places and keep working during outages.
Akar's Instagram, as linked from akarfarm.com, features a post titled "AKAR × Telkom University × BRIN: Off-grid indoor vertical farming". Telkom University and BRIN (Indonesia's National Research and Innovation Agency) also appear among the partners on Akar's 2024 website.
We envision a world in which everyone, regardless of location, has access to all crops, including those grown on Mars.
